From Moe Bowstern:
Ahoy, Oceanic and Riparian Comrades!
Lara Messersmith-Glavin and I are happy to bring out-of-town commercial
fishing folks to a Portland audience and invite you to attend the 2025
FisherPoets in PDX Monday, February 24th. Here are the details:
Requested CASH ONLY donation is $5-$30 at the door. Poets will have
books and music for sale, so bring some cash or have some sort of
electronic payment in place if you want to buy the poets' works. The
venue is all-ages all night. All the door money is divided equally among
the performers.
WHERE: 3645 SE 32nd Ave, at the Oregon AFL-CIO HQ, half a block south of
Powell.
WHEN: Monday, FEB 24th, Doors 6:30, Poets at 7
WHO: Ed Edmo, Melanie Brown, Colin Kaferle, Lloyd Montgomery, Toby
Sullivan, Jon Broderick, Elisa Carlsen, George Wilson, Lara
Messersmith-Glavin have all confirmed, with some possible additional
readers, and I will take a turn if people aren't too worn out and over it.
WHAT: around 2 hours of original tales in song, poetry, and prose from a
dozen different people's experience fishing commercially on the planet.
HOW: It's pretty low tech: there's a microphone and a short stage. The
new venue has room for everyone! And a parking lot!
WHY: Stories are how we understand ourselves and our place in the world.
With looming climate collapse, crazed fossil-fuel drill junkies at the
helm of global government, migrant food gatherers and farmers are on the
edges of impact. We have stories to share about ways of life that are
disappearing. Gathering together reminds us of who we are, how we got
this way, and what we care about.
Here's information <https://www.fisherpoets.org/2025.html>, including
the full schedule of the 2025 FisherPoets Gathering in Astoria, Oregon.
FisherPoets is 100% volunteer-powered and real ground-up organizing.
Thanks to everyone who continues to create this opportunity for almost
100 working people from the fishing trades to share our stories.
ALSO: It's still a pandemic out there! If you were at the gathering all
weekend, consider testing before you come! Wear a mask, wash your hands,
and most importantly, STAY AWAY if you have symptoms. Let's keep each
other healthy and well. We will miss you and we will be so grateful you
did your part to keep us safe.
Let me know if you want off this list! Hope to see you there!
